A journey across Yugoslavia (to Hungary) in the months before it all fell apart after the death of Tito. This lead to a war which saw Yugoslavia brutally split into competing sub- national factions. The taxi ride (based on actual events) exposes the dramatic ethnic divide that strangely anticipates bloody conflict that was about to follow…

A small repertory theatre company is taking Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest around Australian country towns in the late 1950s . On route from a performance in Darwin to one in Mt. Isa their bus becomes lost and breaks down. Here, apparently by accident, they meet an elderly local – someone who fled to the area during the Second World War, and who has stayed there alone there ever since.
